Whilst we have worked extremely hard to provide a reliable, free reporting system to explore your Tag Rocket data, we appreciate that it’s not the easiest thing for you to configure and maintain. Below are the common issues experienced by our clients and how to overcome them.

Tag Rocket Report Status

The BigQuery Project ID is missing

The BigQuery Project ID can be found in GA4->Admin->BigQuery Links.

Identify BigQuery Project ID from GA4

If no project exists here, ensure you have carried out the configuration instructions completely (Steps 12-16).

Waiting on access to the BigQuery project

Tag Rocket doesn’t appear to have access to your BigQuery project to prepare your data for the report. Ensure Step 11 of the configuration instructions has been completed correctly.

Waiting on the first GA4 table export

Tag Rocket is waiting for the first export of GA4 data to BigQuery. This usually happens within 24 hours of creating the link (Steps 12-16 of the the configuration instructions). Check the link is created here: GA4->Admin->BigQuery Links. If longer than 48 hours since creating the link, contact us for assistance.

Billing has not been enabled for the BigQuery project

Billing Details need to be entered within BigQuery for Tag Rocket to be able to access/prepare the data.

Unless you have very high volumes of traffic, the BigQuery data Tag Rocket consumes will be well under the generous free thresholds Google provides. Unfortunately, billing details are still required within BigQuery to allow Tag Rocket to remotely manage the report data.

Go To BigQuery, select the project you created in Step 4-5 of the configuration instructions and then click Billing from the menu, linking an existing or new billing account:

Waiting on access to the BigQuery project

Tag Rocket cannot access your data – this is usually because of an invalid Project ID being entered. The BigQuery Project ID can be found in GA4->Admin->BigQuery Links.

Identify BigQuery Project ID from GA4

If no project exists here, ensure you have carried out the configuration instructions completely (Steps 12-16).

Failed to set up monitoring of billing or new GA4 data

Tag Rocket cannot access your usage data – this is usually because it doesn’t have correct permissions to prepare your data for the report or the required API’s were not enabled. Ensure Steps 7-8 & 11 of the configuration instructions has been completed correctly.

Not Installed or Disabled

Tag Rocket has been disabled, usually related to non-payment. Subscribe under the Billing tab within the app to have Tag Rocket start sending data for the report.

Not Started

Please carry out the the configuration instructions to have Tag Rocket prepare the Tag Rocket Report.

Collecting Data

Tag Rocket needs 4 days to configure & collect enough data for the report to be useful. After 4 days from successful configuration, the report will be available via Tag Rocket->Analytics 4->Settings

Report Upgrade Available

There is a new version of the Tag Rocket Report available – we recommend updating your version to the latest by creating the new version.

Note: Many customers have issues creating the Tag Rocket Report because they are not logged in with the same account used to create the BigQuery project (step 4-5 of our instructions).

Identifying your BigQuery Owner Account:

1. Go to Google Cloud and ensure the BigQuery Project created in step 4-5 of our instructions is selected. If you cannot locate the project, try logging in with another account.

2. Identify your account in the list that has the “Owner” Role. This is your “BigQuery Owner account”.

Creating the Tag Rocket Report

1. Click the “Copy Report URL” button in Tag Rocket->GA4 Settings, taking note of the version number.

2. Login to https://lookerstudio.google.com/ with the “BigQuery Owner account” and preferably with a Chrome browser. Delete any older versions of the Tag Rocket Report to avoid duplication.

3. Paste the report URL into the browser address bar and hit enter

4. Follow the Report instructions to complete the process. Once done, your report will exist in Looker Studio – you’ll only need to create it again if a new version becomes available.
